• Soon after completing the interior renovation of one of our previously executed beach houses, Seascape, the owners asked us to share our insights with them for their apartment in New York City. They had given great thought to their property — its proximity to the street, and direct access to the garden and natural light that it provided. The goal was to create more openness and to bring the sensibility that we brought to their beach house into this urban home. We created an open, loftlike space that allowed us to focus the experience of the apartment on the quality of natural light. In contrast to the beach house, where the informal aspects of the interior reflect the nature of the house, here we worked to create a dialogue between the light, airy space and the age and distinctive nature of the building and location. The collectible furniture, executed in American walnut, leather, and white, completes the space, grounding it in place and time. Neutral tones permeate, with the nursery benefitting from the soothing qualities the palette has to offer.
