• Located on the water’s edge of a narrow peninsula in Mecox Bay, this house is oriented towards panoramic views of layered bay scenery and distant vistas of the Atlantic Ocean. The house and pool cabana are conceived as two lightweight wood structures bounding a vanishing edge pool that are arranged upon an elevated plinth that runs the width of the site. Substantial overhangs modulate sunlight while defining covered porches, balconies, and exterior rooms. Limestone floors and mahogany ceilings are used in the interiors as well as the exterior spaces, visually extending the rooms. A materials palette of glass, anodized aluminum, mahogany and concrete were selected for their low maintenance and sustainable characteristics. Other sustainable features include a roof deck sedum planting, high performance glass and insulation, louvered sun screens and solar panels.
